Ohio State Reports Team Doctor Committed Sexual Assault More Than 1,500 Times

Ohio State University officials have acknowledged in the federally required Clergy report that former team doctor Richard Strauss has been accused of more than 1,500 instances of sexual assault, often assaulting the same victim multiple times.

Clergy Report Counts Assaults In The Year They Are Reported

The Clergy report may be confusing because Strauss committed suicide in 2005 and hasn't worked at OSU since 1998. The report, however, reflects when as assault is reported, not when it was committed.

Since an independent law firm conducted a review of the role of OSU officials who failed to respond to victims who reported the abuse that was occurring. During that review it was discovered that school officials had knowledge that Strauss had sexually assaulted men during examinations, however, nothing was done to stop that abuse or to notify law enforcement.

This case shows exactly what happens if allegations are ignored and abusers are allowed to remain free.
