Senator Who Is Well Known For Championing Women's Rights Accused Of Sexual Assault

Pennsylvania Senator Daylin Leach, who is now running for Congress, has officially been asked by Governor Tom Wolf to step down after numerous campaign and legislative staffers reported that he has "for years engaged in questionable behavior with young female staffers and volunteers, from highly sexualized jokes and comments to touching they deemed inappropriate."

In one instance, a woman reported that during a SDCC breakfast the Senator sat next to her, grabbed her by her thigh under the table and then suggested that he could get her a job. She was so distraught by his actions that she went back to her hotel room and cried. Democratic Party members have confirmed that she discussed the incident with them immediately after it happened.

A second woman has alleged that Leach grabbed her by both buttocks while she was working for the SDCC and when she yelled at him, an aide told her that HER actions were inappropriate. Then a month later, during a budget meeting, he "tickled her torso". Another woman who witnessed the incident reported it to her boss, who reported it to the human resources admin for the Senate. She was then assured by human resources that she would never experience this type of harassment again.

These are just two examples of the allegations against the Senator. He has responded to the allegations, apologizing for any jokes that made others uncomfortable, however, he denies that he ever inappropriately touched anyone.

Clearly, given the growing number of allegations that have been made against government officials, a culture of secrecy has been formed which must be changed so that others won't have to endure the same pain and humiliation.
