Former Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assault

A 38-year-old woman, former teacher, and former basketball coach has admitted to being sexually involved with two former students.

Teacher Faces Jail Time For Sexual Abuse Of Minors

According to court records, the former teacher had relationships with two minors sometime between 2012 - 2015. The first child, who was only 13-years-old when the molestation began, told police that she felt close to the teacher because she had shared personal problems with her. After a few months, the teacher admitted she had feelings for the child and then sexually assaulted her. She didn't come forward because she was afraid the teacher would be arrested and initially didn't want to talk about the ongoing abuse.

A separate case will not go to trial due to both parties reaching a plea agreement and while details are sparse, court records do show that the teacher had sex with a then 17-year-old girl who was also one of her students.

The defendant faces 12-24 months in prison with an extended probation period after her release.

Children Suffer Throughout The Country

Across the United States a disturbing number of children lose their innocence to adults who use fear and intimidation to silence their victims. The best way that the responsible adults in a child's life can help is to look out for the common signs of abuse and to always listen when a child tries to explain what might be making them feel bad.
