Workplace Sexual Assault Claims On The Rise

Thanks to the #MeToo movement, more sexual assault victims bravely speaking out than ever before and as a result, more victims are reporting their assaults. So it can be no surprise that in the past year, the number of workplace sexual assault claims have skyrocketed.

50% Increase In The Number Of Sexual Assault Lawsuits Filed

According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, an organization which is in charge of enforcing civil rights in the workplace, there has been a huge increase in the number of reported sexual assaults in the workplace. This year alone, 41 sexual assault lawsuits have been filed, a 50% increase in the number of lawsuits filed from the year before.

In addition to this, the number of visitors to the EEOC's web page on sexual assault and harassment has doubled.

#MeToo Movement Surges

Across the country survivors are taking a stand and speaking out about the trauma they have suffered. Depending on the circumstances, many have the option to pursue justice through a sexual assault lawsuit.

This civil lawsuit is separate from any criminal charges that may have been filed and the compensation that can be obtained is intended to provide the survivor with the financial support they need to get ongoing care. Nothing can change the past, but with help, the future can become much brighter.
